NIAMH O’MALLEY
Ireland at Venice 2022

Irish Tour 2023

The Irish Tour of Ireland at Venice will take place in three venues throughout Ireland in Spring 2023. The exhibitions and events programme will present an expanded view of Niamh O'Malley's Gather exhibition, including existing works, new commissioned sculpture and moving image, and special guest speakers.

The Model, Sligo

February 3 - April 8, 2023

Unfolding in a new form over five rooms in The Model, works from the original Ireland at Venice exhibition are brought into an expanded dialogue with a larger selection of O’Malley’s recent artworks. This substantial exhibition also reveals and considers the influence of the west of Ireland on her work. The sculptures invite movement and communality and draw attention to their place – and yours, in the room - whether its high towards the rafters or placed in the light of The Model’s beautiful windows low-set windows. Following their first showing in Venice, O’Malley’s sculptures reawaken in this new architecture, conveying sensations of touch, and more – of grabbing, holding, and caressing surfaces, offering moments of tether and precarious poise.

Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin

March 2 - April 30, 2023

Foregrounding O’Malley’s studio practice, this exhibition encapsulates both the conception and making of the work in her studio in TBG+S, its ultimate realisation in the Irish Pavilion, and now in the Dublin gallery. This exhibition includes several new works, and asks what it means to engage in the material practice of making art at this time and in this room.

Bringing together parallel creative voices in language and film who produced work alongside Niamh O’Malley’s exhibition in Venice. The event will feature readings by acclaimed writers Eimear McBride and Brian Dillon who contributed texts to the exhibition book as well as a conversation with Niamh O’Malley and the Curatorial Team of Clíodhna Shaffrey and Michael Hill. The day is mediated by Kate Strain of Kunstverein Aughrim (a curatorial office and production agency).

Accompanying film screenings include those by artist, Jenny Brady whose film Gather follows O’Malley through the making of her Venice exhibition and Ros Kavanagh’s film, which documents the show in Venice.

This is an occasion to meet the artist in her home county and consider an artists’ expanded practice as an opportunity for collaborative creativity across disciplines of literature and film.

ASSOCIATED EXHIBITIONS

The Complex, Dublin | 24 March - 7 April 2023
The Complex presents, 'Fly Floor', a group exhibition of artworks gathered together in the very particular architecture of The Complex Gallery by Curator Mark O’Gorman and Niamh O’Malley. The artists are Louisa Casas, Isabel English, Niamh O’Malley, Jan McCullough. Sitting between abstraction and representation these artists confront the dynamism of artworks as both self-contained and utterly contextual. This is an exhibition of deliberate positioning, solid marks and objects, shifting viewpoints and slippery narratives. www.thecomplex.ie

The Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast | 29 April - 24 June 2023
Niamh O’Malley studied in Belfast, lived there for over ten years and was part of the early days of Catalyst Arts. She returns to present a selection of her moving image and sculptural work in the large industrial spaces of The Golden Thread Gallery. www.goldenthreadgallery.co.uk
